Surround Yourself With Things That Make You Happy

These things can be good people or a simple photograph that takes you back to a happy memory.  Having a strong support system of family and friends can help you make healthier decisions. While surrounding yourself with things that make you feel all warm and fuzzy has a positive effect on the state of your mental as well. Denmark is considered one of the happiest places in the world because many people practice the habit of Hygee.

Hygee which is pronounced “hoo-guh” is a danish term that is the consciousness of coziness. Do you have a warm, hand made blanket that your grandma made you when you we’re a kid? Or a special photograph that immediately brings you to a happy moment in time? These items cannot be bought because they have a sentimental value. Surrounding yourself with things that make you happy can make you happier overall. Which in turn helps your mental health.

Value Yourself

You should always be your biggest cheerleader. It is important for your mental health that you value and love yourself. Avoid constantly putting yourself down and avoid self criticism. Celebrate your accomplishments no matter how big or small they are. Make time for yourself and do the things that you love.

Meditate

How often have you taken the time out to release yourself from reality for a little bit just to unwind. Now there are a number of  applications available on your smartphone devices that allow you to take a breath or two: literally ! Apps such as breath on iOS give you a reminder throughout the day to take a minute or two to relax and breath. Incorporate this with a little mediation to clear your mind and each day increase the time you do it.
